Heat pumps & heating · Pensacola & surrounding areas

Gulf Coast comfort includes the chilly days.

A heat pump works through more than cooling season. Sunset Air & Services helps with heating problems, control issues, auxiliary-heat concerns, and seasonal checks so you understand what your system is doing.

What we check

Heating is a whole-system job, too.

Heating performance

Review the comfort complaint, delivered air, operating temperatures, and refrigeration performance as conditions require. A thermostat reading alone does not identify the cause.

Auxiliary heat & controls

Check the call for heat, equipment staging, relevant electrical components, and thermostat setup. Tell us if AUX seems to stay on or operation changed after a control replacement.

Outdoor operation & defrost

Look at outdoor-coil condition, airflow, and the defrost sequence when symptoms point that way. Ice that persists or repeatedly interferes with heating needs evaluation.

Airflow & distribution

Inspect filters, blower operation, supply and return paths, and uneven room temperatures. Heating cannot reach a room properly when the air path is restricted.

A quick explanation

One system that moves heat in either direction.

In cooling mode, a heat pump moves heat out of the home. In heating mode, it reverses the process and brings heat indoors. Some systems also have electric resistance backup heat to help when needed.

That backup heat uses electricity differently from heat-pump operation. Correct thermostat compatibility and settings matter; a large temperature change or a control problem can affect when auxiliary heat operates.

Normal—or worth a call?

A brief defrost cycle can be normal.

In cold, damp conditions, a heat pump may briefly change its operation to clear frost from the outdoor coil. A temporary change in sound, some water vapor, or an AUX indication can occur during this cycle.

Heavy ice that does not clear, repeated error messages, or a system that never resumes normal heating deserves a service call. Do not chip ice off the coil or force the equipment through repeated resets.

Before the appointment

A few details help us get started.

  • Note HEAT mode, the set temperature, and the room temperature.
  • Share whether indoor air is moving and the outdoor unit is running.
  • Note AUX, EM HEAT, or any fault message exactly as displayed.
  • Tell us about recent thermostat changes and equipment access.

Working system? Plan maintenance.

Preventive care is for equipment that operates. If there is a known heating problem, we diagnose it first and discuss an approved repair before routine maintenance.

Smoke or a burning smell is not a defrost check.

Stop using the equipment if safe. For smoke, fire, or immediate danger, leave the area and call emergency services. Do not open panels or bypass safety controls.
